WEAKNESSES

 1) Mistletoe: Fatal: L-10: Carried over from being the only weakness to Baldur’s Invulnerability, Ultramagnis inherited this weakness as well. ANY weapon made of, or tipped with Mistletoe will do severe damage to Ultramagnis. Accordingly, if Mistletoe is ingested in any way, Ultramagnis will instantly become unconscious until the toxin runs its course. He then awakens groggy but fully healed.

 2) Lack of Worthiness: Dire: L-8: Any selfish act or killing, accidental or otherwise, will cause Ultramagnis to lose the use of his Magic Uru Weapons, which will ultimately cause him to immediately revert back to his human form. Without the use of his Uru Belt, Ultramagnis cannot call upon the Einherjar for his powers. Selfish acts can include misusing the Power of Ultramagnis for personal reasons or gain, ignoring a being in distress, laziness, etc.

 3) Berserker Rage Fatigue: Dire: L-8: Immediately following Ultramagnis's Berserker Madness, he is mentally and physically fatigued to the point of near unconsciousness. He can barely stand and is barely coherent.

HISTORY:

THUNDERBOLTT!! This magic acronym transforms Magni's chosen Human champion from his mortal shell into the Mighty Ultramagnis, Norse Champion of Earth.

The true origin of Ultramagnis begins in the 1100s AD, after the war of the Ragnarok, the Norse war between the gods and the frost giants. It is believed that this war transpired due to the reluctance of the Norse gods to relinquish their influence on the mortals of Midgard (Earth). All other cultural pantheons had ceased to correspond with mortals and quietly faded into obscurity with the coming of the savior, Christ, the son of the one true Lord God, and the growing conversion to Christianity of mortals abroad. The Norse, however, led by the war god Omnipotent Odin, was not ready to go quietly into oblivion, and remained an influential part of northern European society. Odin, wisest of all pantheons, knew of the coming Ragnarok, and in an attempt to sway the odds in the god's favor, ignited the assailment of the Vikings, which began around 700 AD and lasted until 1100 AD. Odin would send his daughters, the Valkyrie, to the Viking battlefields where they would gather only the bravest warrior spirits, the Einherjar, and bring them before Odin himself, who honored them by allowing them to live and train in Valhalla as champions of Asgard in the Ragnarok war. However, as Christianity spread, more and more Vikings converted to be saved by Christ and gave up the life of war. The swaggering faith in the Norse pantheon weakened the powers of the gods, and Loki, the god of fire and mischief, took the opportunity and led the frost giants against the Norse gods and their Viking champions on the Vigrid plain, thus fulfilling the prophecy of the Ragnarok. During the war, Omnipotent Odin was eaten by one of Loki's sons, the giant frost wolf Fenris, who was then killed by Odin's son, Vidar, who kicked Fenris's jaw open with a magic iron boot and then tore out his throat. The greatest Norse warrior, Thor, son of Odin and god of the storm, also died in battle after killing one of Loki's other sons, the giant Midgard Serpent, Jormungand, whose venom proved too toxic, even for the Mighty Thor. Loki battled the Mighty Heimdall, the sky god and guardian of the rainbow bridge Bifrost, and the two also destroyed one another. When the war of the Ragnarok had finally come to an end, amidst the mass destruction and death, it appeared that Odin's plan had succeeded. Although battered and worn, the Norse gods had prevailed. Those left standing on the Vigrid plains battlefield were Thor's sons Magni and Modi, who inherited the succession of Chief of the Norse pantheon and their father's awesome hammer, Mjollnir, Odin's two sons Vidar and Vali and his brother Honir, the invulnerable Balder and a few others of the Norse pantheon. Hel, Loki's daughter, remained in her nether worldly domain in Hell, safe from the carnage of Ragnarok, awaiting the souls of the dead warrior gods and spirits, the Einherjar. There the Einherjar would dwell, giving Hel her final victory, or so she thought. Once Magni took up the position of Chieftain for the Norse pantheon, he decided that he would not meddle in the lives of the mortals on Midgard as his grandfather, Omnipotent Odin had done, but instead, he would await a desperate time in human existence and choose a single mortal champion from a "Trial of Worthiness" performed by a select group of Viking descendants. This "Trial of Worthiness" would be contrived of challenges and games that the competitors would compete in, and would not end in carnage and death as the Viking wars did. Upon his decision, Magni gathered the 3 shards that broke from the hammer Mjollnir, Vidir's Enchanted boots, Thor's power gauntlets and belt of strength, Megingardir, and took them to the dwarves who originally forged Thor's Mighty Hammer Mjollnir, Brokk and Etri, and bade them forge a new set of weapons for his new champion. Magni's instructions were clear. Forge a new set of Power Gauntlets from Thor's original power gauntlets, combined with the first Uru shard of Mjollnir. Forge a new Belt of Power from Thor's original belt of strength, Megingardir, combined with the second Uru shard of Mjollnir. Forge a new set of Power Boots from the original Enchanted Boots of Vidar, combined with the third Uru shard of Mjollnir. The weapons were magnificent. There was only one element needed to complete the incantation. The one element missing was the main ingredient that would give the new champion his powers, the Einherjar of the fallen Norse warrior gods. So, using Mjollnir to open a portal, Magni traveled to the Netherworld and confronted Hel, demanding the Einherjar of the Norse gods. Fearing her own demise, Hel placed each spirit into a magic rune and reluctantly released the Einherjar into Magni’s care, but vowed her revenge as he departed. Magni took the runes containing the Einherjar of the Norse gods to Brokk and Etri, who were prepared for the incantation of the new weapons. Magni placed each rune along the belt in the specific order that would spell out the magic acronym THUNDERBOLTT which represents each entity that provides the power of Ultramagnis. He then waved Mjollnir and spoke magic rune words which, along with a stream of lightning from Mjollnir, encased the Einherjar into the magic belt, where the spirits dwell until they are called upon to do battle once again by the new champion. Each spirit grants a specific power to Ultramagnis.

Now that Magni had his Champion's powers, abilities and weapons, he only needed a mortal worthy to bestow the Power of Ultramagnis upon. Finally, the time arrived when Magni felt the Earth would need a champion. That time is now. Magni sent word to his Danish Viking descendants, known as the Tribe of Ultras, that the time for the "Trial of Worthiness" was at hand. The Tribe of Ultras had been an elite tribe of Danes that formed in the 1100s when Magni approached the only remaining village in Denmark that had faith in both Magni and the new way of Christianity. Magni knew that the Lord God was in fact the Supreme Being in the universe, and not to sway the mortals, but rather, encourage their move towards Christianity. He made a covenant with the Ultras that one day, one of their descendants would champion the Norse and become the protector on earth as the Mighty Ultramagnis, and that the champion would be chosen from 12 challengers who would compete to prove their worthiness of body and spirit. From that day, the Ultras honored their pact with Magni throughout the decades and centuries, keeping their organization a secret while training each generation to be the best possible warriors and Christians they could be. In the 1800s, the Ultras moved their organization to the new world, where freedom of religion appeared to be the only answer to the pressures from the Catholic Church that threatened to end their organization and had forced them underground. The Ultras migrated to Duluth, Minnesota, where they continued the tradition and honored the covenant. Finally, in present time the day came when Magni summoned the Ultra to a remote mountain where the "Trial of Worthiness" would begin. The Ultras were a small community, and only had 11 participants that were in the proper age range, 18 to 25, to compete. The most physically impressive of the challengers was a 20 year old named Ragnar Magnusson, who was picked to be the victor by a wide margin. Then a late entry, Zakris Vinson, entered the contest on the day of. His age was only 17, but in the interest of the 12 man rule, he was allowed to compete. This enraged Ragnar. Although he was larger in stature than Zak, he knew Zak to be an exceptional athlete, whose speed rivaled his own. Despite Ragnar's objections, the competition commenced. As expected, Ragnar was the best in nearly all of the competitions with Zak bringing in a close second. Surprisingly though, on the fifth day of competition Zak defeated Ragnar in the wrestling tournament by out witting him and maneuvering him into using his own body weight against himself. This left the tournament open to the final test for deciding the champion which was the mountain footrace. The contestants had to race up the side of the cliff and the first to the top would be the victor and claim the mantle of Ultramagnis. Everyone knew that Zak was the faster of the two, but this was a climbing race, which combined strength with speed, and Ragnar was the stronger, therefore he was again the favorite. The challengers were even keeled thru the first half of the race. Ragnar could feel exhaustion overtaking him and found himself falling behind, while it appeared that Zak was better conditioned. Once the competitors were out of the view of the crowd, Ragnar desperately lunged and caught hold of Zak's ankle, pulling him back causing him to nearly loose his grip and fall from the cliff. Ragnar then pulled a tree branch and swung it into Zak's face, which allowed him to take the lead over Zak. Undaunted, Zak trudged on and began to make up distance when, suddenly, a large rock dislodged by Ragnar tumbled down towards him. Zak had to nimbly jump aside while maintaining his grip to avoid certain death. Ragnar, pleased with the rock's result, scurried the rest of the distance to the top of the cliff and claimed the championship. When Zak made his way to the finish line, happy to still be alive he congratulated Ragnar on his victory and cunning. The Ultras praised the victor who knelt before the altar that was built on the mountain to receive the power of Ultramagnis. The cheers vanished though, when a sudden boom of thunder struck and lightning crashed as Magni himself appeared before the crowd. Magni stripped Ragnar of his victory due to his treachery, and granted the power of Ultramagnis to Zakris Vinson, he who had overcome the "Trials of Worthiness" which represents a strong body, three obstacles which represent the three Uru Rune weapons of Ultramagnis, and who congratulated rather than scorned the treacherous winner, which represents a kind soul. Zak was truly worthy of the power of Ultramagnis, not only in his body, but in his soul. Ragnar was outraged, and demanded that he was the true victor and that Zak was not even old enough to be in the "Trials of Worthiness." Magni exclaimed that Zak was old enough to understand that victory is not worth taking precious life and that his decision was final. Ragnar, waving his fist, swore revenge and stormed off followed by his parents and a third of the Ultras who came to be his followers. Magni then turned his attention to young Zak, and attached the Uru Rune Belt of Power to his waist, explaining the inscribed spirit runes and how to invoke the powers of Ultramagnis. THUNDERBOLTT; and Ultramagnis was borne.
